What Tongue is

An online school with a timetable, an instructor and a plan.

Tongue is a school. You are placed at a level, you join a group, and you meet your instructors live.

About
  1. Taught live, in small groups

Every session is a live lesson with an instructor, in a group with a limited number of seats. You talk, ask and practise in real time.

  2. Your official level comes first

A placement tester assesses your English in a live conversation. The level you receive decides which groups you can join.

  3. A roadmap for every level

Each level has an academic roadmap. Your progress moves when your group completes items on it.

  4. Tasks with instructor feedback

Instructors set tasks, you submit your work, and the feedback stays attached to each task.

The student experience

What to do next is always the first thing you see

Your dashboard opens on your next session and its Join button. Under it: your group, your progress, your tasks and your attendance.

  • Your next session and the Join button, first
  • Your level, your group and your instructors
  • Every task with its status
  • Your attendance, session by session
  • Your bills and their due dates, visible from the start

Progress & roadmap

Progress is measured by what you learned, not by time

Each level has an academic roadmap: the list of what the group has to complete. Your percentage rises when items are completed. A session being held does not move it by itself.

  1. Stages and checklists

The roadmap is organised in stages, and each stage is a checklist.

  2. A final assessment

Every level ends with a final assessment.

  3. Completion is confirmed

Administration confirms the level and it is recorded in your course history.

Tasks & feedback

Feedback that stays with the work

Instructors set tasks for the group. You submit your work and the instructor reviews it. The feedback stays attached to that task, so you can always go back to it.

Messaging & community

Your group and your instructors, one message away

Every group has its own group chat, and once you are enrolled you can message your instructors directly. Messages are saved, so the conversation is still there the next day.

The instructor side

Instructors see where every group stands

Instructors work from their own dashboard: today's sessions, each group's progress on the roadmap, submissions waiting for review and attendance to record.

What you can count on

Four principles the school runs on

  • Small groups

Every group has a fixed number of seats. A full group stops accepting enrolments.

  • Your official level before you start

You choose a group only after your level has been assigned.

  • Live sessions inside the platform

Lessons happen in the built-in classroom, in your browser.

  • Progress measured by what you learned

Your percentage comes from completed roadmap items.

Questions

Common questions

Read all questions
How do I start?

Create an account, then book a placement test from your account. After the test you receive your official level and can see the groups open for it.

Do I have to take a placement test?

You need an official level before you can choose a group. New students normally get it through the placement test; administration can also assign a level directly.

How is the placement test done?

It is a live appointment with a placement tester, inside the site. You book one of the available times from your account, and the tester assigns your level afterwards.

Which groups can I join?

Groups published for your official level that are open for enrolment and still have a free seat. Each group shows its schedule, dates, seats, instructors and price before you enrol.

How do I pay?

When you enrol you pay in full or, where the group offers it, in instalments. Each payment is a bill with a due date. Payments are recorded by the school's administration, and the payment instructions are shown in your account. The platform does not take card payments.
