You can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases. You can introduce yourself and others, ask and answer simple questions about personal details, and interact in a simple way when the other person speaks slowly and clearly.

How you get to this level

Through the placement test: if the tester places you at A1, you start here.
Moving up is never automatic. You choose and enrol in your next group yourself.
After this level
When the roadmap of A1 is complete and the final assessment is done, administration confirms the level. You are then eligible for A2 · Elementary groups. About level A2
