What C1 means

You can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts and recognise implicit meaning. You can express yourself fluently and spontaneously, use language flexibly for social, academic and professional purposes, and produce clear, well-structured, detailed text.

How you get to this level

  • Through the placement test: if the tester places you at C1, you start here.

  • By completing B2 · Upper Intermediate: once that level is confirmed as completed, you become eligible for C1 groups. About level B2

Moving up is never automatic. You choose and enrol in your next group yourself.

After this level

When the roadmap of C1 is complete and the final assessment is done, administration confirms the level. You are then eligible for C2 · Proficiency groups. About level C2
